June 2022: Author’s End-Of-Month Update

June was a good month. Here in the UK, it was blue skies, baking sun, and long days. It was also Beth’s Birthday month. All in all, the perfect time to go on holiday. And that’s just what we did. We had a whole week away from the grey shabbiness of Derby. Most places were far too expensive for us this year, so we went with East Yorkshire. Apparently, the area is officially called East Riding – I don’t know why.

We enjoyed a long walk along the beach, pretended to be American tourists in York, and visited The Deep in Hull (just the coolest name for an aquarium!).

I did plan to get some long-overdue writing done. I’ve not been able to do much in the last 6 months. I packed the laptop, but forgot the power lead! So it was back to the old-fashioned pen and paper. In the end I actually rather enjoyed it. Writing a draft by hand does put my mind in a creative frame in a way that typing simply doesn’t.

For her birthday, Beth got the piano book for Einaudi’s latest album (one of his best). There’s been lots of live music around here recently. Yet another thing to be thankful for.

By the time I got home, I had almost completed the first draft for an episode, to go along with the 3rd drafts of two episodes I’ve already got saved on the computer. The hope was to get at least one episode out before the end of the month. Then I played a game of football and managed to sprain both arms and my right wrist all at once! I’m not much of a footballer. Beginning to think I should leave well alone!

Everything’s healing up nicely. I can type but not back to drawing or lifting anything heavy just yet. At least I can now pick up a cup of coffee without wincing!

So in summary June was a good month, a little too hot, the wife had a birthday, we visited the fishies, I shouldn’t be allowed near a ball ever again and we’ve got some long overdue episodes to polish up and release soon.

Stay tuned, some more exciting announcements coming up!
